I started experimenting with Slit-Scan Photography during my 2012 studio trip to New Orleans. Instead of capturing spatial information like traditional photography, the slit-scan process instead transcodes temporal information in a single image. Slit-scans can be read left to right as a timeline of when objects passed by the camera: the longer the object in the slit-scan, the slower it was moving, and vice versa. Motionless objects freeze and become bands of color.
I carried this forward into a live exhibit that transformed the slit-scan into a sort of clock. The three circular bands represent from outside to inside: one minute of time, one hour of time, and twelve hours of time. Various captures are shown below.
